I
- “Craig Groeschel (Pastor of LifeChurch.tv and author of a bunch of great books) has his dream job and he wrote on the back of the book that ‘this book is a must read.'” Throwing out a known name who has their dream job should keep you out of trouble with your boss.
- “I just bought all of Jon Acuff’s books. You should read all three of them!” Thanks to Jon’s ability to write books at super ninja speed you can promote all three of his books and never say that you love Quitter.
- “I love Jon Acuff’s book Quieter. It’s a must read.” With just a slight misspelling you can rename his book and hopefully your boss won’t know any better.
- “I just read Quitter, and thanks to Jon Acuff I discovered that I might be doing my dream job at this very moment one day.” Okay, this is called the confusing method. It’s so confusing that no one will understand what you are saying. It still promotes his book though.
- “Quitter give away. If you don’t have your dream job, enter this contest on my site.” Throw a contest and give the book away. That way when your boss asks you about the book you can say you no longer have a copy.
- “I loved reading Jon Acuff’s autobiography, Quitter, about how he went from a desk job to his dream job.” I don’t think this is a lie. It does tell his story…right?
- “Jon Acuff works for Dave Ramsey. Dave is the financial guru. I wish Dave would run for President. Read Quitter. It will change your life. Dave Rules!” Most bosses are busy. They don’t have time to read every word of your tweets. So sandwich how you really feel in the middle of a Tweet and hope for the best.
Have you read Quitter? If not and you want to I’m giving away one copy of his book. Here’s how you can win it.
- Tweet about the contest by clicking the tweet button at the bottom of this post.
I will randomly select one person and mail them the book. The contest will end Friday at 5:00 PM. Good luck.
Using Random.org the winner of the Quitter giveaway is Lindsey Brooks. Congratulations Lindsey!Â
I have never read the book. Would like to, not for me but for others (whom I would like to help). There you go Rob. Another way to Tweet it. 🙂
Bill, I like it. I wish I would have thought about it.
I thought Jon Acuff was a country singer from the 1970s. Quitter sounds like the name of a toe-tapper that he made popular with the line-dancing set. But, I could be wrong. Or maybe he retired from touring and is now a writer. Yeah, I’m sure that’s it.
Daniel, if he is a country singer he is making a huge comeback in the blogging world/book world.
Maybe that’s the real reason he moved to Nashville…
Does this count as your comment?
That’s up to the moderator. I’m not going to tweet anything though, since I’m not on Twitter.
He’s related to the singer Roy Acuff.
You would know that if you read the book.
Ricky, I’m not much of a reader.
I gathered that from all the book reviews you don’t do on your site!
Rob make my dreams come true! This would rank with my desire to be on the price is right 🙂
Nic, here’s to hope that you are randomly selected. Thanks for the comment.
I would just say it’s a book on quitting smoking. Even if you don’t smoke. Hey, it may or may not work. 🙂
You are right. It may or may not.
I haven’t read it yet…(shame on me, i know)
My boss would be happy I think…
She is very supportive of our dreams and stuff like that…
(crazy, i know) LOL…
Well, if you win it here you will have to let me know what you think about it.
Acuff should have come out with two versions of the book: Quitter for those not happy in their present jobs and Continuer for those doing what they love. That would be an easy way to tell why somebody’s reading it.
Good point… if your boss has never heard of the book or Acuff, you probably don’t want to have it just laying out on your desk indiscriminately so you have to answer all the uncomfortable questions.
“Oh, that book? It’s a… um… book on leadership… yeah, and not giving up… yeah, see it’s a sarcastic title… yeah.”
Meanwhile, Revelation 21:8 says that you’re now going to hell for that, so repent and hide the book. Or something like that.
Do I sense a Jesus Juke in that comment? Funny stuff.
I don’t know — I think that was more of a Revelation Redirect.
Burrill, I think that you should be Acuff’s new PR director.
I’ve read the book. I love Jon’s writing style. Probably one of my top 3 favorite writers. And I loved the different ways to promote the book. I plan to go back and read it again. I think it’s that good.
Joseph, thanks for the comment. I’m almost halfway done with it and so far I like it a lot. I love how his humor is all the way through it but he still makes great challenges.
Cover it with a new book jacket! You didn’t read ‘Quitter’ — you read ‘War & Peace’ — in 4 days!
Genius!
This book is on my reading list!!
Carmaleta Ann, thanks for stopping by. Do you already own the book or is it on your wishlist?
I read Quitter and loved it. I read it in three nights. Fantastic read.
Kevin, wow! That’s some fast reading. So do you have your dream job?
I’ve seen Jon’s video promo on this book – it looks great. I’m glad that my husband 2 1/2 years ago – due to some personal issues, decided to resign from the staff position at the mega church where he had served for 13 years – and went into business for himself – doing his “dream job” of doing wedding and funerals full-time. He’s never been happier. And since I’ve taught private music lessons for 15 years – we are now BOTH self-employed. It’s amazing freedom. We’re not rich by any means – in fact we have far less money than we ever had before and we’re WAY happier.
Wow! What a great story. I love that you guys followed your dreams and that it worked out! Love it!
I went to amazon, and read the description of the book. Definatly a book I am adding to the list. Not too long ago, I finished Weird, so if our boy Craig Gro is recommending it, it is a must read. That man is as inspired by God as they come. I am not sure if I asked you yet, but have you read Steven’s Sun Stand Still yet? Still waiting on that autograph borther..lol. Man this sunday was a blast. However, as far as being random selected, I am torn. Of course I am like the rest of us, that has not read it, and would love to be. But as mentioned in another post I am grounded from book shopping (wife says I have to catch up) until I finish the list I have..lol..but being randomly selected would not be subject to that restriction right??? Lol, have a good week pastor rob, see you sunday.
I have read Sun Stand Still. I gave that book away earlier in the year. It’s also a great book. I think if you win this your wife will be okay with it.
I’m intrigued and since I love Acuff’s writings, I guess I need to head over and download the book. Thanks for the heads up!
Sele, or you could wait until Friday and see if you win it here. Unless you really hate hardback books.
No I don’t hate them, just figured I wasn’t too lucky that’s all. Also you need to stop by my place, I was talking about you today.
Thanks for the shout. That made my day!
I’ve read it twice – once in print, and once via audiobook.
I highly recommend the audiobook since Jon reads it himself so you get his inflection and timing, plus he throws in several bits that aren’t in the print version.
That’s good to know, I’ve got several unused Audible credits so that sounds like the way to go.
That is interesting. I’ve never listened to an audio book. Are they expensive?
I’ve had a monthly subscription to Audible for about 8 years now, got quite a library built up. I listen to them in the car and at home after the family goes to bed. Individually they are priced about the same as physical book.
More than I’d like, but well worth it. I have an Audible subscription as well.
If I post my reply
as multiple
separate messages,
does that increase
my chances of winning?
It should, cause that was funny.
I agree. That was really funny!
<3 Jon Acuff….want the book. I've recently quit my FULL-time job to pursue what (may) be my dream job. Maybe I should read it and find out. Luckily, my new job is from home (as is my other one), and my kids can't read, so….I should be good to go!
Yay Lindsey. Yay for 1 because you are pursuing your dream. Yay for 2 because you left a comment on the blog. Missed having you around the blog.
i know, right? where have i been? honestly, i got overwhelmed by the number of posts i had missed. my google reader currently has (literally) 347 unread posts. whoa. i’ll never catch up. so i avoided for awhile. but. i love your blog. and i really want that book. so…i’m back 🙂
not 347 of YOUR posts. i just went wild with subscribing to blogs for a few weeks. and then stopped reading ALL of them for a few weeks. oops.
I’ve read it and liked it and hid it from my employers.
Did it help you find your dream?
Very creative I am sure you will get to guest post soon on SCL.
Patrick, Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you stopped by. I love SCL! I wish I was as optimistic as you.
I’m a fan of Jon and his blog. He is one of the good guys in that he respects others; other cultures, faith, people. I’ve actually even turned some of my atheist/agnostic friends onto his blog, and they’ve enjoyed it. I procrastinated on purchasing Quitter .. and may procrastinate just a little more in hopes of winning! If not, I will purchase the book soon based on your review and these comments. Thank you.
My pleasure. Thanks for stopping by. I love Jon’s writing. Great stuff.
I gotta tell ya–I hate that Jon Acuff:
http://randomlychad.com/2011/07/6-reasons-why-i-hate-jonacuff-a-giveaway.html
RandomlyChad, I remember that post. Great stuff!
I’m now on the other side of Quitter with last week being my first one working for myself. Loving it! I was blessed enough to work for someone who encourages entrepreneurship and they all gave me incredible support in the process. Granted, Jon works there too and they helped him publish the book. 🙂 My Quitter story is on my blog if interested.
Here’s another way to promote. My friend, Jon Acuff, has a new book out. I want to support him by reading it.
Western Ky Pastor, that’s great! Wish I would have thought of that one.
I really want to read this book haha. Thankfully I’m still a college kid though, so I don’t need to worry about a boss firing me for tweets. Though if any of my accounting profs catch me reading it inside my textbooks – I mean what? I’m in college now, I’d never do that. 😉
Jaymie, that’s really funny. What college do you go to?
I don’t want to be known as a “quitter” so I am reading the book to be thoroughly informed! Pick me, I will put it on my “recommend” shelf at work.
Jackie, sounds good. Here’s to random hope.
I would like a copy of quitter because I’m working on stopping some bad habits, namely working a job I don’t like.
Bill, you would love Quitter! If you don’t win make sure you pick up a copy.
My favorite promotion tactic was the confusing one.
Thanks Jeff. I appreciate the comment.
This article was so funny. I am in the middle of baby step 2 of my total money makeover so I can’t afford book purchases while getting gazelle intense but I hope I can win this book! I need to quit but want to do it the right way!
Summer, Jon definitely talks about how to quit the right way. He’s spot on!
I’m still trying to figure out what my dream is. But I’d love a chance to read your book! It’s on my amazon wish list if I don’t win the free book (which is likely… I have terrible luck when it comes to raffles).
Lindsay, I have bad luck as well and I won two books last week from two different blogs. Your luck may just turn around. Who knows?
I have thought about these same things!! Crazy. But, I’d love to read it for sure.
Ryan, it’s a great read.
I won “Quitter” from a blog a few months back… it’s on my Kindle and I still haven’t read it. Shame!
I need to start it because I keep hearing how awesome it is!
