There are three ways to say “Oh God.”
1.
Oh God, I spilled the milk.
God D@#^ I am so annoyed.
2. Oh God, where are you?
Oh God, where are you in the hurricane?
Oh God, where are you in that abuse?
Oh God, where are you in my pain?
God D@#^ you!
3. Oh God, I’m broken for you.
Oh God, I don’t understand but I’m searching for you.
Oh God, I am desperate for you.
Oh God you are my God and I will ever praise you. No matter what goes on in this world I will desperately cry out, Oh God.
Three types of Oh God. Two lead to cursing. One leads to reverence. Where are you with your use of Oh God?
Rob, I sometimes wonder if we take his name in vain without ever saying a word.
Larry, you are on to something! Happy Birthday by the way!
Love the message today. Maybe you should consider a career in ministry? Just sayin’ …
Daniel, I’ll think about that. Ha.
I transition from 2 to 3…
But I like to stay in 3…
Arny, I hear ya. I do a good job of staying away from 1 but I can dip into 2 pretty easily.
I do number 3. But with a little twist
“Help, I need someone!
Help, not just anyone!
…”
Thankfully I find in my old age I still need God’s help in every way, everyday.
But I am not one to overstate something that is obvious anyways.
Ed, I hear ya. I desperately need God in my life!
Convicting post. I like to think I’m in the reverence camp. God, you are worthy of all praise!
Moe, I’ve been getting nervous about my blog. I keep seeing you post things about people who are experts. I started analyzing my blog to see if I fit that category. I say that just to say I’m glad that I didn’t scare you off and I love that you comment on my blog!
I try to stay in the reverence camp, but it requires constant marshalling of my thoughts. My pastor made a fantastic point on this not long ago when he preached to not ask Why? (Why did this happen…Why did God let my get hurt…etc), but rather ask What? (What should I learn from this…What is God trying to teach me…etc) This really helps me.
By the way, Rob. I read yesterday’s post to my wife last night and got to a comment that mentioned the House Party. She has a co-worker who has been coming to church and was interested in Community Groups when my wife would talk about ours. My wife grabbed her phone, called her co-worker to let he know about the House Party, hopped in her car to pick her co-worker up and bring her to the church. Now her co-worker is signed up for a group of her own. All this because of your blog. Thank you so much for writing this every day!
Randal, wow! That’s great! I love that she invited her and that she came! Thank you for sharing that story.
Hopefully always in reverence – I’m sure I have not always done this – or been aware. Great to think about!
Thanks Cindy!
I have found myself mis using God’s name. Suchs, “God I dislike doing dishes”. Can say I never break out the GD word! When you hear people use that word we should be able to treat them to a good ole Goldberg Spear. Wrestling fans should appreciate that.
Joseph, I loved Goldberg! I still have a giant piggy bank that came filled with popcorn. I watched a pay per view event and ate all the popcorn. I’ve had it for years now.
Yeha, I still remember the night he went 100-0, Or that was the selling point. He use to play for U.G.A, that dude was a serious beast. I haven’t watched wrestling in years, because now it is so tainted, up with drama, and just crap. But back in the day it was the equivalent of the male soap. Oh and if some how some way, in a future conversation, my wife shares I use to watch All my Children and General Hospital, it is a lie from the devil 🙂
I am usually a #3 guy. God is to be honored and revered–not cursed.
I don’t use his name in vain, but even reading the post is convicting
God is everywhere.I also believe in God.Thanks for this nice post.
