Footloose
It’s a modern day version of the Kevin Bacon’s Footloose minus the amazing soundtrack. Now you did read that right. I put a the in front of the Kevin Bacon. I just think that with a last name that is so amazing he deserves something extra. All the big scenes in the original are in this movie. They have updated things by adding iPods and a crunk dance scene. I’m not a huge fan of the original but I both liked and disliked how faithful they were. I liked it because they stayed faithful to the source material. I didn’t like it because if they were going to stay so close I think it probably means we didn’t need to remake this movie.
I think Hollywood is desperate for ideas. The reason a remake of Footloose doesn’t make sense is that it was a classic for it’s time. You can’t recreate what it did. Kevin Bacon became an instant star. The soundtrack went on to sell 10 million copies. It’s was the 80’s! The 80’s had their distinct voice and I think that’s why Hollywood keeps trying to copy it. The problem is that we live in 2011. The 20’s need to find their own unique voice. They need to create their own culture. They need to make history.
Footloose is rated PG-13 for some mile language, pot smoking, some way too tight clothes on the females, and a scene where I had to look away because a chick takes her shirt off to use it as a race flag. She’s not naked but it’s still not worth watching if you are trying to protect your mind. I give it one thumb up.
Movies have been remade since the beginning of Hollywood, so I struggle with which movies should or should not be remade. I’m a child of the 80’s, so I am a bit sensitive to that period. I heard the other say that a sequel to Top Gun may be in the works. As long as they don’t start remaking the Batman movie from the late 80’s, I’ll be ok.
I love Batman from 1989! It’s one of my all time favorites.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the whole movie. I typically never see the original if the movie has been made from the 80s or before. That’s my life, so what.
Ryan, please tell me that’s not true. Have you seen Back to the Future, Goonies, The Karate Kid, and Indiana Jones?
totally agree about the 80s. i was born in the late 80s, but the original was the best. you can not beat that 80s style. this movie was just a mtv movie that was a disaster. did not like it at all.
Megan, so you saw it? I thought they did a decent job with it but they shouldn’t have made it to begin with.
TOFTT… That’s hilarious!! However, there is no team that could make me “take one” if it had anything to do with sparkling vampires!!
Scott, does your wife like Twilight? My wife loves it!
TOFTT indeed. This remake I just don’t get. You’re a good husband.
Thanks Daniel. She puts up with a lot of stuff that I like. Although I still can’t get her to watch Rocky.
TOFTT?….I couldn’t do it…sue me but…I’d rather see the sparkling Vampire….lol…
I don’t mind musicals. And this had a couple of little action scenes. The sparkling vampires are boring and weird.
Arny, you can have your chance at the sparkling vampire in about a month.
a movie just isn’t the same if kevin bacon is in it. or someone you can link him to.
Rob, is or is not in it? I don’t have a problem with the Bacon.
Footloser…I mean Footlose. What can be said about the remake of this movie that hasn’t been said about Chernobyl, or some other tragic event in history.
The orginal version, though not priceless, the soundtrack I will agree borderlines on epic status. Unfortunatly I had to endure the 3 minute preview at another movie I recently seen, and that was enough to tell me all I needed to know about this remake.
It is a display in my opinion of just how far our society has fallen in just a few short years. I mean really? Is it possible to flash as much skin, without actually flashing skin? Maybe I am giving an un-infomred opinion of the movie. It just irrates me a little (times alot), when they take something that was a great movie, and trash it up. Hollywood always seems to be spot on offensive (ok maybe a little strong). Well, for the most part.
I bow out gracefully…….
Oh one more thing…Would anyone care to see a remake of the Goonies? Now that might be an awesome remake…HEY YOU GUYYSSSSSS…classic.
Oh, dang, sorry for the mutilples..but the Truffle shuffle…lol.I am seriously rolling here.
Joseph, I love Goonies. I have heard they are talking about a sequel to the Goonies. I don’t know how I feel about that. Somethings should just be left alone.
I agree with that. I am not sure how they would come up with a sequel to Goonies. Hard to improve that one.
I agree with you – you just can’t remake a classic. Not even interested in seeing this one.
Cindy, do you like the original? I haven’t seen it in years. This movie did make me want to watch the original.
TOFTT – love it. I’ll be doing that in a couple weeks when the Vampire movie comes out I’m sure.
They filmed the Footloose remake not too far from where I live btw…
Dustin, that’s cool. The mention GA multiple times in the movie. And I think my wife is going with friends to see the latest sparkling vamp. I am hoping I get out of it.
I think you make some very astute observations and I’ll probably skip out on this one.
ThatGuyKC, you choose wisely.
Yes yes, I like what you did here, I’m tracking, and then, BAM, a one thumb up? I’m confused man, from your words, I was thinking at best a thumb to the side. Was the rating a TOFTT as well?
Sirvhim, it wasn’t poorly made. For what it was they did a decent job. If you like this type of thing then I think you’d like the film. Oh and my wife did like it so yes.
I’m surprised from your review that it got one thumb. I guess you said it was good enough, but the fact that it shouldn’t have been made (or can’t compete with the 80’s “voice”) would override the fact that it was a decent movie.
Do you think Hollywood keeps trying remakes of all things 80’s because they were so unique and classic, monumental, or whatever, or is it because the directors that are in a place to do so grew up in the 80’s, or were young in the 80’s, and want to hold on and recreate something that was meaningful to them growing up? Maybe we think they were awesome b/c the 80’s was our time growing up or teen years, but perhaps older generations didn’t get them, or younger generations watching them later don’t get them like we did. Just looking at the fashion of the 80’s and hairstyles makes me wonder what we were thinking….so maybe some of the other things 80’s are that way, too, and we just put them on a pedestal b/c we are nostalgic?
I used to always want them to make a Breakfast Club 2 so we could find out what happened when they all went back to school…
Faith, I hear ya. I debated giving it a thumb to the side but I didn’t hate it. I was entertained for what it was. I just don’t think it offered enough to warrant being made.
