Today my wife turns extra beautiful. It’s her birthday. Now I hear it’s not nice to share a woman’s age so I’m going to randomly pull out a number and say that many nice things about my wife. Here are 32 things that amaze me about my wife…
She watches the Walking Dead with me. This isn’t a show that a lot of girls love. Yet it’s a show that we both really enjoy to watch together.
She finds me attractive. I’m balding, overweight, and I have hair on my back. My wife for some reason finds that incredibly attractive.
She doesn’t nag me. Nagging wives are such a…well…nag.
She’s a great mom! I love how much our kids love her.
She’s incredibly patient with me. I don’t always take initiative. I often forget to do things. I’m not a perfect spouse and yet she has never put me down or made me feel like an idiot.
She loves what I love. She took me to my first Lakers game. She watches the playoffs with me. She even watches SportsCenter when I’m out of town and then fills me in when I get back.
She love Jesus. The Bible says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Here’s what that means.  External beauty is fleeting. Eventually all people kind of end up looking the same, old and wrinkly. There are no attractive people in the old folks home. I’m thankful that I’m married to someone who is beautiful on the outside and the inside. You want to know what separates truly beautiful women? They love Jesus.
She’s funny. My wife makes me laugh. It’s not easy to make me laugh but she does.
She reads my blog and proofs it daily. I make a lot of stupid mistakes. I often mix up then and than. I often put your when it should be you’re. She reads my blog first thing in the morning and then let’s me know, in a loving way, what mistakes I’ve made.
She likes Vampire crap movies and TV shows but doesn’t force me to watch them.
She likes to be silly with me. I’m pretty goofy. She does more than tolerate it. She joins the fun.
She once drove 1 hour to buy me Chipotle. Before we had our very own Chipotle in the 757 we had to drive an hour for it. One day during the summer I cam home and I had Chipotle waiting for me. Just because.
She doesn’t ask me to buy her girly products at the store. Girl stuff freaks me out. She knows it. She respects my freaking and doesn’t ask me to buy it for her.
She can name the entire starting five and most of the bench players for the Lakers. She did it without me asking her to. She did it because they are my favorite team.
She doesn’t go to the bathroom in front of me. I know this is weird but I think that it ruins the romance. 10 years of marriage and she still allows me to be weird like that.
She invests in people. My wife has invited more people to Waters Edge than any one I know. There are lots of families that now call WEC their church because of her investment.
She believes in me.
She is confident in who she is.
She helps me pick out my clothes. Before I got married I would look at what the manikins in the store were wearing and then buy it. Not any more.
She buys me a Full Throttle Energy drink before I preach. At Waters Edge we have five services. When I preach she goes to the store to make sure I have a Full Throttle in the morning.
She’s pretty.
She’s so thoughtful. She is always thinking about nice things that we can do to be a blessing to others.
She loves road trips. We love to travel to together.
She stokes the fire of our marriage. Fires start off big but over time they dwindle. It’s the same thing with marriage. Often marriages start off blazing but the fire quickly dwindles. Ten years into our marriage and we are still in love.
She bought me the complete Rocky collection even though she hates Rocky. I love Rocky.
She’s a great cook! She looks for new recipes and makes food that is loaded with yummy goodness.
She’s okay with never owning a pet as a married couple. She grew up with a dog and a cat. I think owning a pet is like using your cash money as toilet paper. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
She gently reminds me where the turns are. I stink at direction. She could make fun of me but she doesn’t. She gently tells me where to turn.
She gently rolls me over when I’m snoring. Half the time I don’t even remember her waking me up. That’s love.
She is one of the most selfless people that I know. She inspires me.
She’s not dramatic. I think I wouldn’t last long if I was with someone that was high drama.
She’s the best thing to ever happen to me. God knew what He was doing when he blessed me with Monica. My life is full because of her.
Good tribute Rob. But #12 truly shows her love for you. Without a doubt. Happy Birthday Monica! You deserve a crown. As for mine…how in the world am I supposed to come up with 61 by January? Oops did I say that? 🙂
Rob your wife is beautiful, inside and out. I adore how kind she is. I have said many times how wonderful it was for me that Brett was in her class. You both are great examples and I’m thankful God brought you two together. Happy birthday Monica.
I hardly ever read your blog any more because I find it quite disturbing, so I really don’t know what made me read it today. I was with you until #30. Seriously? From what I see you are 2 of the most selfish people I’ve ever come across in my life! The fact that you consider yourselves and each other to be selfless just blows me away because I know neither of you are stupid or uneducated! I really just thought you chose to be so selfish and were doing it on purpose because it’s so blatent and obvious, but when you publicly proclaim each other as selfless on your blog for the world to see, I don’t quite know how to take that. I guess it just makes me feel sorry for you that you can’t see it and you don’t have anyone in your lives who love you enough to tell you that you come across that way so you can correct it.
If I had such evil dripping from my mouth, I’d post anonymously too.
Ephesians 4:29
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Blown Away, if we have offended you or wronged you in some way then I’d love to talk in person to make it right. I don’t know if you know us or if you just know of us via the world wide web. You are right. I am selfish. I’m a work in progress. My wife helps me think about others on a regular basis. I know you probably won’t do anything about this but I’m offering to talk. Let me know.
Wow, you are such a bigger man than I am… I woulda’ ripped this guy a new one ( or just deleted his post ) and the only reason I would have wanted to meet him in person is so I could punch him in the throat… I guess that is why I look up to you and respect you so much… and contrary to his post and your response… you are one of the most selfless people I know. Happy Birthday Monica – and props to you for taking the high road.
Thanks Brian. I really do believe that even if you were perfect somebody would crucify you. I know that not everyone will like me. I praise God that I’m saved by grace and that He loves me despite my flaws.
wooo BA woooo! Really? hate Rob’s blog, find it ka poo poo, never shop this site again… but gee this man loves his wife! You could not find another post to bash but a birthday post? You do not devote your life to be a pastor and a teacher because your selfish. period. what I know is this, in a world of judgment and hate, Monica and Rob loved me like Jesus. When no one else did. We don’t always agree, see eye to eye and have heated debates, but they love me like Jesus still.
So BA, stand up, speak with a name and move to a resolution or really all your doing is just mucking up a really beautiful, moving and touching love story.
Rob-you are such a lucky man. Your wife is amazing. Your marriage and unconditional love for each other inspires me. Your relationship with Monica makes me want to have a better marriage. You guys truly put the others needs before your own and that is so hard to do.
My child can’t plan ahead for anything-but she had a bag of various candy your wife loves ready to bring to school today…why? Because she sees Monica in action. She sees what Monica models-the way she invests in people and loves them. I love that my child wants to be like your wife. I am so happy Monica has such influence on me and my child. I love you both very much!
Monica is awesome if she drove an hour to get you Chipotle. There has be some sort of award for that. She deserves recognition from America for that one. Hope she has a great day of her birth celebration.
Rob, I am just BLOWN AWAY. You are so selfish that you just spent a whole blog post heaping praises on someone ELSE and that’s… well… actually that’s pretty much the opposite of selfish isn’t it… hmmm… 🙂
Happy birthday, Monica! So glad God brought you two together.
Happy birthday wife to Rob. Watches Walking Dead, buys you Rocky and can cook? She’s a keeper dude. Totally. And since you are one flesh, you get to eat cake too! Woo-hoo!!!
Don’t let someone selfish and unhappy spoil your day. You and Monica don’t deserve that. That person is in need of some serious prayer. I am glad that you can find it in your heart to pray for them. Consider the source – oh, wait – you can’t consider the source because they are hiding behind ANONYMITY. You just enjoy loving your incredible wife and be happy. Some folks just can’t take it when others find fulfillment in their marriage. You inspire others every single day. Don’t you forget that.
Good tribute Rob. But #12 truly shows her love for you. Without a doubt. Happy Birthday Monica! You deserve a crown. As for mine…how in the world am I supposed to come up with 61 by January? Oops did I say that? 🙂
Bill, I know right. She’s awesome
Happy Birthday, Monica. It’s great getting to know you and Rob through this blog. If I’m ever in the 757, I’m going to meet you guys.
Larry, bring it. Bring some Bluebell icecream with you. I know they have it in Tennessee.
Happy Birthday Monica!
Thanks, babe! But seriously. I love you way more.
Mon, nope. I love you more.
Happy birthday, Monica!
Rob, you truly found the one God made for you.
#26, 27 and 28 are further proof we were separated at birth.
Ricky, it’s a honor to call you an internet brother. Is that weird?
Nice words Rob, Happy Birthday Monica.
You know a great way to show you care … 18 Nov … Vampires … I’m just sayin’
Sirvhim, you are right! Lucky for me she is going to a midnight showing with friends. I thankfully have to hang out with my kids…while they sleep.
This makes me cry every year you do her birthday list ! She is an amazing woman and you are blessed to have each other!
Stacy, thank you. You are such a blessing to us! We praise God for you on a weekly basis.
Rob your wife is beautiful, inside and out. I adore how kind she is. I have said many times how wonderful it was for me that Brett was in her class. You both are great examples and I’m thankful God brought you two together. Happy birthday Monica.
Thanks Bernadette! I love that we know you guys now because she was Brett’s teacher.
Good stuff Rob. A wonderful list to share with M. Put it over the top and read it aloud to her! That will get you some Chipotle.
Daniel, thanks. We both think it’s cool that you call her M.
happy birthday Monica!
I started praying for your wife before you were born. I’m thinking some prayers were answered.
Mim, thanks! I’m following in your example and praying for Reese and Hayden.

Monica is awesome if she drove an hour to get you Chipotle. There has be some sort of award for that. She deserves recognition from America for that one. Hope she has a great day of her birth celebration.
Joe, your comment made both of us laugh out loud. American recognition was a funny line. Thanks!
