My buddy, Dan Peters posted the following message on Facebook. Warning:
Dan Peters: “FREE Gift idea: This Christmas when you’re spending time with the relatives, leave your phone in the car and be fully present… show others that they’re important to you. Oh and as a New Years resolution, commit to not checking your phone constantly when you’re with others. You’ll connect with people better.”
Boom sauce.
I hate that I felt so stinkin’ convicted when I read that. I hope to be fully present this Christmas. I don’t ever want the people I love to feel like they are less important than my phone.
Why do you think it’s so hard to be fully present when we are with people?
I am too important to leave my phone in the car!
Well said… Merry Christmas Rob!
Awe man, this is good stuff. Don’t you love it when you hear something or read something and it just resonates within you. Letting you know, “Don’t miss this!”
Love this! Merry Christmas to all! God Bless!
That post reminds me of a wonderful book called The Precious Present. A must read.
Because we always think what we are currently doing is way more important that what we SHOULD be doing!…
The reason why some of us can’t put down the phone and be present is because we are also trying to connect with those that can’t be present. What I recommend is that if their presence is desired, then try to get them on Skype as opposed to texting them.
P.S. Spell check on here doesn’t recognize texting as a word. Ha-larious.
My phone is shiny. My in-laws are not.
Thanks, Rob. Needed the reminder.
Merry Christmas!
I tried, but calls from Afghanistan can happen at any time…
