…Continued from Flesh
Now we weren’t in some back room at a shady movie store. These movies were right next to the action figures. I quickly tell Matt that he’s never seen that movie. He assures me that he has. He then asks me if I had ever seen Flash Gordon. I tell him to look at the title one more time. He turns red and quickly puts it back on the shelf. We run out of the store like we stole something and then start laughing really hard.
I was thinking about this story because it screams SATAN. The Devil lies to us but his lies are laced with truth. He tells us things that look like the real deal, but he never shows us that what we settle for is a cheap knock off of the real thing.
The Bible talks about the fall of man. It starts when the Devil deceives Adam and Eve to eat from the tree that God told them not to eat from. Look at the lie that the Devil sells them, “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Now this isn’t a complete lie. The truth is that when Adam and Eve eat from that fruit their eyes will be opened, they will become like God, and they won’t immediately die. The problem is that they can’t handle the consequences of their decision. Their eyes are opened and they see the results of evil. You see God knows good and evil but He’s never experienced evil. He’s never dealt with guilt and shame. So the Devil’s lie was laced with truth.
It’s so annoying how the Devil works. He sells us things that look like the real deal. He sells us things and we think that we can handle the consequences. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God they went into hiding. The truth is we’ve been hiding ever since.
Lucky for us God has given us the Bible so that we can know what truth is. He’s given us forgiveness so that we don’t have to live with the weight of our sin. He’s given us His Spirit so that we can sense when we are being deceived. Flesh Gordon exists and it’s not worth watching. Similarly the Devil exists and what he’s selling is not worth buying. We’ve got to believe that what God has given us is better. It’s the real thing.
Two visits to robshep in one day. A twofer as they say. Great message today preacher dude!
Thanks Daniel!
Amen brother, good words!
Thanks Sirvhim!
I’m glad that Matt had really been watching Flash.
Good conclusion. And that is like Satan. He makes the change so subtle that we think we have the real, good thing.
Thanks Larry!
So I was a little worried for you. You have had two blog plugs at church in the last two weeks and then you take the weekend off!?!?
Anyway you pulled it off, good job!
I wasn’t sure if you were fabricating too much of this so I googled Flesh Gordon. It exists, YIKES! Pray for me….
Stevie, I post 5 days a week. I take the weekend off every weekend. I figure people who check it out the first time won’t have read the post from Friday.
Extremely funny
The thing about the Devil is that, you’re right he never really lied…he blindly actually gave them another option…
He said, that they would be like God, knowing Good and Evil…
BUT! so quickly Adam and Eve forgot that THEY ALREADY KNEW GOOD! THAT IS ALL THEY KNEW!
WHEN GOD MADE THE EARTH, REMEMBER HE LOOKED AT IT AND SAID…IT WAS VERY GOOD, EXEEDINGLY GOOD…GOOD WAS ALL THEY KNEW…
THE DEVIL TRICKED THEM BY TELLING THEM THAT KNOWING GOOD….WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH…
The devil is always trying to tell us that His Good is not Good enough…
Arny, well put. I agree. I hate that Devil.
Wheww had me worried there for a miniute. Awesome post Rob. I only have one thing to say. THE DEVIL IS A LIAR!
Hilarious. Would have loved to have seen Matt’s face when he realized.
Also, what kind of movie store has that just chilling in selection? Had to have been a huge mistake by somebody.
And hopefully some kid didn’t buy it thinking it was Flash Gordon.
Don’t get me started. All I can say is that’s a lure of satan that is very secretive inbetween Christian men. Most Christian men are still hooked into the whole pornography trap. We need to pray for our brothers!
