This is post 2 of 2 in a double feature movie review.

I was really excited about Crazy, Stupid, Love. I really enjoy Steve Carell. I love him in the Office. Last summer Date Night was one of my favorite movies of the summer. I own Despicable Me because he’s the voice of the main character. I even like Get Smart. The point is that I like his humor. I heard that Crazy, Stupid, Love was a great movie so I went in with high expectation. My expectations might have been a wee bit too high.

There were parts of CSL that I really liked. There were parts that made me laugh out loud. There were parts that made me want to love the film, but there were also an equal amount of parts that I didn’t like. CSL is what we call a dramedy. It’s part drama and part comedy. I normally like this type of movie because unlike a lot of comedies it actually has a decent plot. I also enjoy dramedies because they make characters that you care about. CSL succeeded in doing that. The plot was engaging and the characters were enjoyable. The problem though is that the content is questionable at best. At one point my wife asked me if the movie was rated R? It’s PG-13 but it does have an unnecessary F-bomb and the content is definitely adult driven. The other thing that I didn’t love about this film is that it’s just sad. Not sad in a “My Girl” type of way were a main character dies. Don’t joke me. I cried my eyes out when Macaulay Culkin died in that movie. It’s sad because of the choices that the characters make. It attempts to redeem them in the end but it wasn’t enough for me to love this movie.

I give it a thumb to the side.

Rob’s Rating System =
Two Thumbs Up – A great movie worth paying full price.
One Thumb Up – A decent attempt and worth seeing at a matinee price.
Thumb to the side – An ok film, but wait for video.
Thumb down – A stinker of a film. Don’t waste you life seeing it.

So have you seen Crazy, Stupid, Love? What did you think?
