2011
Favorite Movies
- Fast Five – I am still shocked that this movie is on the list. I am not a fan of the Fast movies. I went into this movie with really low expectations. I left feeling like it was the best action movie of the year.
- Super 8 – if the Goonies and ET had a child it would be Super 8. I loved this movie!
- Moneyball – this movie was a little slow and it was about baseball, a sport that I don’t really care about. Somehow I left loving this movie!
- Captain America – sure this is no Dark Knight, but it’s the best superhero movie of 2011. Yes that means I think it’s better than Thor, and X-Men First Class.
- The Help – okay, this isn’t a movie that I would own on DVD (unless my wife really wanted it), but this was one of the best pictures of the year. The acting is great and the story is captivating.
Favorite Albums (Yes I still listen to albums)
- Needtobreathe – The Reckoning. Needtobreathe is my favorite band and they came through in a big way. This is the best album I’ve heard in years. LOVE it!
- Mat Kearney – Young Love. If it weren’t for the fact that Needtobreathe came out with an album this would be my favorite by far. I love every song!
- Switchfoot – Vice Verses. It took me a while to get into this album. Mainly because it came out around the same time as Needtobreathe’s. After taking some time to listen to it I feel like it’s one of Switchfoot’s best to date.
Favorite Blog Posts (Some people post their most popular posts. Popularity doesn’t always mean the best. Case in point the number one movie of all time is Avatar and I wouldn’t put that movie in my top 50)

Firsts In 2011
- First time I changed a diaper, fed a baby, and burped a baby. Oh and there was that first where I attempted to see if my son would latch on to my nipple to try and eat. He was crying really hard. I didn’t have a bottle ready. I was desperate and I thought it’d be funny…oh and he didn’t.
- First time I jogged a 10K.
- First time I got peed on by a baby.
- First time I rapped at a holiday service at church.
- First time I watched the Dallas Mavericks win a championship. That was not easy.
- First and second time that I got re-tweeted by Jon Acuff. The first time was for the blogging All-Star Challenge and the second was for a post about his book Quitter.
- First time I had a summer intern. B-Rad was AWESOME!
- First time I watched The Walking Dead. I got the first season on DVD for Fathers Day.
- First time I drank Mtn. Dew White Out. This has become my drink of choice in 2011.
- First time I became a Tim Tebow fan. I started rooting for that guy to win in 2011.
- First time I got inducted into Awesometown.

So that’s my look back at 2011. What are some of your favorites from the year that was 2011?
Rob, I woke up at 5:00 a.m. on my day off just to read robshep. You didn’t disappoint.
Larry, thanks bro! It’s hard to sleep in when you are used to waking up early. I was awake at 5 as well. Thank you so much for reading and for commenting so faithfully!
Thanks for the shout-out, Rob!
Now I’m even more excited to see Lincoln!
Things I will have to check out because of you: Needtobreathe and The Walking Dead.
Ricky, let me know what you think. The Walking Dead is intense.
Well I ruptured a disc in my back about 3 weeks ago and have been on 6 different pain meds that are the size of horse tranquilizers so I don’t remember much of 2011 at this point… what I do remember is the UNREAL Christmas eve service that WEC put on … After Stu Tweeted it was up I literally watched it 5 more times then burned it to a DVD and took it to my parents for them to watch… so when I come out of this haze I will let you know of any other memorable events.
Brian, good luck with that. Thanks for checking out the blog when hyped up on pain meds. I got your emails and will respond on Monday. This post actually answers one of your questions.
2011 highlights are actually more like life highlights that just happened to occur in 2011.
1) Seeing 10 positive pregnancy tests… Yes, Mel took 10! We figure that we looked at 100 negative ones over the last 8 years, so disbelief and excitement to see positive ones got away from us a little.
2) Everything WEC! I am so thankful for God putting all the pieces in place to find my way back to where I need to be. I have no doubt that 1 is a direct result of 2.
3) Playing music live… in front of living, breathing people!
4) Robshep.com!
Scott, congrats again! So excited for you guys.
Sounds like you had a big/good year Rob – that’s awesome. Have you read Tebow’s book “Through My Eyes”? I just got it for Christmas. I’m only a few chapters in, but so far so good.
Doug, I haven’t read that. I looked at it the other day. I need to add that to my list of books to read. I have a bunch.
Thanks for the shout out.
Favorite thing…moving to Louisiana to pastor.
Michael, that’s awesome. You also had a big change with your blog this year. That was pretty epic.
Of all your favs we have 3 of the same. (MY favs of yours that is) The twins, Rapping Christmas Eve and Tebow. You should seriously keep a date book on how many times you eat at Chipolte in 2012. I would be courious to know the number.
Kris, that’s a great idea. I will do that on my phone. I wonder how many times I will eat there this year?
Great list man. It has been a wonderful year for you. Looking forward to more robshep in 2012!
Thanks Daniel!
Great lists. I’m right there with you on the movies. I never saw Fast Five though. I just felt like it would magically turn me into a douche. Hearing you say you didn’t like the other ones makes me contemplate giving it a try, though. I’ll keep you posted.
Kevin, go in with low expectations like I did and you will be blown away! It should have been called really good action movie.
That’s what I did with ‘The Expendables.’ It was awesomely bad, but I will watch it again. ha.
Agreed. Love it! It is awesomely bad.
Again Rob, much of our lists would be very similar, have you seen this Crowder video?

Randal, sounds like a great year. Green Lantern was a disappointment to me. I wish they would have made it more like Iron Man. It should have been amazing.
Thanks for including me, man. It’s been goog getting to know you over the internets this year. I just spelled “good” as “goog” and I’m not going to change it. Goog might be my new word for 2012.
