I love to get to know the incredibly good looking people that read robshep.com. Answer the following five questions and I’ll see you in the comments.
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Christmas music…love it or loathe it?
I’m not saying that he’s not real (just in case anyone under the age of 11 reads this), but when did you stop believing in Santa?
Favorite Christmas tradition?
Would you rather eat a pound of fruit cake or a gallon of eggnog?
I’ll go first…
Home Alone. I love Elf and Die Hard is up there but I enjoy watching Home Alone every Christmas the most.
Love it. I make a Christmas mix every year. I don’t love every Christmas song. I also don’t love that artists don’t make more original Christmas music. But I do enjoy listening to Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving…not sooner.
I don’t ever remember believing in him. I do remember that when I was in third grade my dad mysteriously forgot something in the house while we were all in the car on our way to a Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve. When we got back to the house my dad said, “I think I hear reindeer on the roof.” I was on to him then. I didn’t fall for those shenanigans.
Going to see a movie with my family. Watching the Lakers play on Christmas day is a close second.
I’d rather do neither but that’s not how you play the game. If I had to choke down one I’m going with the eggnog. But I’m not happy about it.
1. It’s a Wonderful Life. The Santa Clause is a close second.
2. Ambivalent. i will occasionally put it on.
3. I am an old man (59). How in the name of Santa Claus am I supposed to remember back that far? I would say probably around my teen years. LOL
4. watching Wonderful Life and SC on Thanksgiving Day. Eating my wife’s awesome sausage gravy and biscuits for Christmas morning breakfast.
5. Fruit cake if I can put butter and peanut butter on it. Egg nog if you won’t allow that.
1. It’s A Wonderful Life
2. Love it (but wait until after Thanksgiving, please!)
3. I wanted to believe, but I knew from a very early age that he wasn’t real (like 3 or 4). My parents didn’t do the whole Santa thing with us.
4. Swedish Christmas dinner. I love the food and the memories it brings forth.
5. Egg nog any day, but a gallon is a lot of egg nog. This would take me a while.
1. Christmas Vacation
2. Love it
3. Around 4th grade
4. Watching Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas movie watching season.
5. This is disgusting….but the eggnog.
1. Home Alone and Elf
2. Love your mixes & listening in December….WEC band makes it even better.
3. Probably really young. Don’t remember really believing.
4. Opening one gift on Christmas Eve
5. Egg Nog everytime. Slow & steady.
1. Home Alone
2. Love it
3. 7? My folks never mentioned Santa, either to encourage or discourage.
4. Sitting down and enjoying the finished Christmas tree with a glass of
5. Eggnog.
Danielle, have you heard Coldplay’s Christmas song? Monica can’t get enough of the Bieber’s Christmas stuff. I say Monica to cover my butt and not give anyone ammunition to make fun of me.
1. Elf, with all the Home Alones a close second.
2. Love the upbeat Christmas music, the old skool hymn stuff not so much.
3. I stopped believing at 9, but didn’t admit it until 12 (was afraid if he was real, he wouldn’t come to my house).
4. Tradition that have carried over since I was a kid = reading Luke 2 at bedtime on Christmas Eve and baking sugar cookies. Traditions since I have become a father = making fresh squeezed orange juice to have on Christmas morning and luminaries in our neighborhood on Christmas Eve. Tradition that starts this year (today) = letting the boys open an early gift on the day school lets out.
5. Both are pretty nasty, but I’d have to go with the eggnog.
P.S. Monica – if this post is not grammatically correct its ok. Grammar rules do not apply until after 9:00 a.m.
1. Christmas Story
2. Oh Holy night! Lyrics are sooo amazing!
3. never believed in santa…i think…
4. Huge Party on 24th!
5. Uh…we are a mexican family so… i stuff myself with hot Tamales! lol… no eggnog or fruit cake here buddy…
1. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Elf!!!!!!!
2. Christmas music…love it or loathe it?
LOVE IT… started listening to it before Thanksgiving and I’m perfectly okay with that
3. I’m not saying that he’s not real (just in case anyone under the age of 11 reads this), but when did you stop believing in Santa?
When I was 9 and saw my parents carrying a TV into the living room in the middle of the night to put under the tree, and then woke up the next morning to see the same TV wrapped up with a “Love, Santa” tag on it
4. Favorite Christmas tradition?
Christmas morning breakfast.. This is the first year I’ll get to experience it with my husband in our own home 🙂
5. Would you rather eat a pound of fruit cake or a gallon of eggnog?
a gallon of eggnog for sure! (which is saying a lot because I’m lactose intolerant) hahaha
1. It’s a tie between Scrooged and Polar Express ( both traditions )
2. I like Christmas music when it first starts but by the time Christmas gets here I am ready to punch someone in the throat, to quote Stu… By the way I LOVE the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas stuff.
3. What? Are you kidding me? This can’t be true… after today I will no longer follow your posts… next thing you know you will be telling me that the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy don’t exist.
4. Favorite tradition… gotta be WEC Christmas Service… that and getting up at 5 am and seeing the looks on my kids faces.
5. Neither… both are gag nasty ( to quote you ) but since I have to pick I would probably eat the fruitcake and wash it down with the eggnog causing myself to become violently ill – therefore expelling both of them.
1) A Christmas Story, Scrooged
2) Love it
3) Age of 12
4) Spending time with family, seeing relatives i only see once a year
5) Fruit cake the lesser of two evils
1 – White Christmas with good old Bing – Love musicals and Christmas ones are even better!
2- Love Christmas music – definitely helps me get in the Christmas spirit.
3- I don’t ever remember believing in Santa Claus – my dad had a bad experience when he found out the truth and didn’t want us to go through the same thing. Definitely enjoying rediscovering the magic with my step-daughter though!
4- We didn’t really have any Christmas traditions growing up except having 2 Christmases (one with one set of relatives and one with the other) but I’m really enjoying making new ones with my new husband this year. Putting up the Christmas lights outside and decorating our tree are some of the highlights so far! Christmas Eve at WEC is also something I look forward to all year!
5- I think I would have to go with the egg nog but yuck…couldn’t we just eat Santa’s cookies instead?
1. The Santa Clause – Elf is second.
2. Enjoy Christmas Music after Thanksgiving – really love the Waters Edge Band renditions.
3. Not real? Ah man!!!!!
4. Decorating the tree with the kids – it’s a tradition in our house to put my wife’s old retainer on the tree somewhere – don’t know how it got mixed up in the Christmas stuff years ago, but it’s turned into a tradition for me and the kids – my wife just gives us “the look” each year.
5. As dense as fruit cake is, it would probably be easier to choke that down. Although I do like to make my own low-cal, non-alcoholic eggnog.
Have a Merry Christmas – excited to experience Christmas Eve with Waters Edge.
1. Sadly don’t watch any Christmas movies… But I do enjoy the Christmas sit-com episodes.
2. Love Christmas music. Hate George Michael “Christmas” music.
3. Real young! I have an older brother that took pleasure in convincing me that Santa isn’t real.
4. No traditions, which I kind of like because it leaves room to make some.
5. Gotta go fruit cake! A gallon of egg nog and lactose intolerance would lead to an epic Christmas disaster story!
Not a big movie fan in general. I like the “idea” of movies, just to A.D.D. to sit through them. Even when I’m practicing guitar I have the music going and a football or basketball game on. You have to give movies undivided attention to really get the point or the story. I still have to many ants in my pants at this age!
1) Elf, Die Hard, Home Alone, White Christmas (in no particular order)
2) I like modern interpretations of Christmas music – Mannheim Steamroller, Transsiberean Orchestra, also have an album of carols done by Twisted Sister that rocks!
3) Never believed in Santa – wasn’t an idea my parents pushed.
4) Making gingerbread houses & cookies using my Grandma’s gingerbread recipe. Christmas Eve with WEC. The presents of the presence of family.
5) Eggnog with a splash of rum and a sprinkling of nutmeg on top.
1. Christmas Vacation followed closely by Elf and Home Alone.
2. Love it, for the most part. Lots of artists I skip over.
3. Don’t remember, but probably after I got The Ultimate Warrior action figure instead of Hulk Hogan. I mean why bring me the Warrior when I really wanted The Hulkster….come on Santa.
4. Looking at Christmas lights.
5. Gallon of Egg Nog easily. Fruit Cake would make you need egg nog to wash it down anyway.
1) “Muppet Christmas Carol.” It’s musical and funny–can’t go wrong with that. As a kid, I also remember watching “A Very Brady Christmas” on TV every year–where the Brady Bunch all come home for Christmas with their families. I’d want to watch that, too.
2) Love it…if it’s done right. Loathe the fact that some stations play it 24/7. I think 3 of the radio stations on my car presets started playing non-stop Christmas music right after Thanksgiving. Unless I’m picking the Christmas music, I still want to hear regular stuff, people… I like how Air1 does it, where they gradually increase the Christmas music the closer it gets to Christmas, and then it’s all Christmas music on Christmas day.
3) I don’t remember. As a kid, I remember my mom signing gifts “from Santa,” but there came a day when we got a spending limit and went shopping for our own gifts. Kind of hard to believe in Santa when you saw the receipt for your own gifts.
4) Eating. Actually, that’s my favorite anytime tradition.
5) I don’t think I’ve ever tasted fruitcake or eggnog…but a gallon sounds harder to down than a pound, so I’ll go with the fruitcake.
Elf for the cheesy comedy win, and A Christmas Carol for the tradition.
Jim Reeves Christmas music plus your standard Christmas pop stuff.
Don’t really remember when the Santa illusion left me, what a load of rubbish though.
Tradition in our house, the Saturday before Christmas we go ice-skating, then come home and put the tree up and all watch a Christmas dvd together. That signals the start of Christmas.
Have never had eggnog and never intend to. Love fruit cake so that’s a no-brainer.
1.)frosty the snowman
2.)loathe it although I have been listen to both teh Future of Forestry advent Cd’s as well as Relient K’s “Let is snow baby let it reindeer”
3.)umm…before 5th grade. Not really sure when. I also immediately told my younger sister.
4.) We make smothered burritos on Christmas Day..SO YUMMY!
5.)EGGNOG easily! I’ve already put a gallon away since thanksgiving. I love the stuff.
1. Christmas Vacation
2. Love it – but only between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
3. Probably around 7-8 yrs old.
4. Grandma’s homemade tamales.
5. Egg nog.
Dustin, I love that there are so many different traditions represented. You, Arny, and Moe should all get together for Christmas. You’d have tamales and eggnog with rum.
1) My favorite Christmas movie would have to be Home Alone 2 because the kid is a genius, the pain is funny, the message rings true, and it has more story than the 1st and 3rd.
2) I love Christmas music. I think my favorite might be “All I want for Christmas is you” sung by Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber. I’ve discovered that the only aspect of Justin that I don’t like is “his” songs such as “Baby” and “Teach me how to Douggie”, but that’s due to needles repetition.
3) I still believe in Santa despite the fact that I’m fourteen. The only thing is that due to my (what some would call confusing/insane/ridiculous/etc.) method of thinking I see him everywhere, having a sort of influence on humanity.
4) I go with some of the classic traditions: gingerbread houses, presents, decorating the tree, etc. The new one that I’ve adopted is Christmas with Water’s Edge.
5) I see that you’ve posed a clever trick-question. I’ll take the fruitcake because if I had to “eat” Egg Nog, then it most likely has gone bad. I’m on to you Rob with your clever wording.
If someone should like to hear more on my views about Santa, just reply to this comment asking about it.
1. A Christmas Story. Long before they showed it for 24 hours straight my brother and I would always watch it together. We are 7 years apart, so when I was 8 years old it was cool that my teenage brother hung out with me.
2. I hate that most of it is the same old boring ones. But I like when artist create new ones. Mostly I don’t want to hear it. My fave CDs are Michael W Smith’s ‘Christmas’ and ‘Christmas Time’ and Mercy Me’s ‘The Christmas Sessions’
3. I will admit I was late on this one, maybe 12 or 13.
4. See number 1.
5. I actually kinda like fruit cake and I am lactose intolerant, so a gallon of Egg Nog would be bad for all of us.
Geoff, I love A Christmas Story. My family watched it a bunch growing up. My wife on the other hand hates it. I don’t know why she does, but there is not changing her mind. I’ve tried.
1) Home Alone (“I made my family disappear!” …classic).
2) I embraced Christmas music this year and don’t know why. I think it’s because I’m putting the Christ back in Christmas (is this like when JT brought the sexy back?).
3) Cake.
4) My parents are good Christians, so I’m pretty sure I was never that sold on Santa.
5) You know it’s eggnog… who eat’s fruit cake?
Definitely thumbs up on your Lakers tradition, as well as Christmas Day movie (though I think we’re going to see that Matt Damon movie this year- ehh…).
What is your favorite Christmas movie? A Christmas Story
Christmas music…love it or loathe it? Meh
I’m not saying that he’s not real (just in case anyone under the age of 11 reads this), but when did you stop believing in Santa?
Favorite Christmas tradition? When I saw my mom packing gifts and putting them under the tree… from the keyhole of my door. I was 7.
Would you rather eat a pound of fruit cake or a gallon of eggnog? Gallon of egg nog. But only “Coquito” which is puerto rican eggnog with Rum in it. Dont’ judge me Rob!
Movie? How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I love the music and Jim Carey as the Grinch is awesome.
Music? I listen to every kind, every singer. I love it all. O Holy Night is my fav, but I cry all the way through it no matter how many times I hear it!
Santa? Guess I was around 11 or 12
Tradition? We don’t really have anything we do every year. We just roll with what ever is happening
Egg nog or fruit cake? A teaspoon of egg nog would make me yak but I think I could make my way through some fruit cake if I had to.
By the way, I just had the most awesome experience. I was at Sweet Frog (if you have never gone, you really need to!) with my son. Two young ladies (maybe 17 /18 years old) came in and sat beside us. They immediately started talking about God and how awesome it was to be saved. I think one had just gotten saved by the way she was talking. She said she has a hard time getting started with bible study and doesn’t know where to start. So, I had been carrying the WEC Christmas service ticket in my purse since Thanksgiving and I just decided to give it to them. I have never done anything like that so was a little nervous how they would react. They were both so sweet and started asking me about WEC. They had heard about it from friends. I told the blonde that I had heard her talking about bible study and thought that a community group would be very benefical for her. They seemed interested and thanked me for inviting them. I may never see them again, but I hope they come this weekend. Made me feel all warm and gooey inside!!
Movie? Hmm…that’s a tough one. Charlie Brown Christmas special (kinda counts, right?), oh… and Polar Express.
Music? Love Christmas music but definitely not before Thanksgiving. And I’m pretty sick of the songs that just talk about weather…I prefer the ones about Jesus. I do however enjoy the Charlie Brown Christmas CD (from the show, obviously. Yes, there’s a theme here.)
Santa? Don’t really remember, but I know I believed at one point and then I didn’t. Probably somewhere around age 8 or 9. But I’m seriously considering telling the truth to my future children.
Tradition? My family follows a tradition of making and eating pasties (hand-held veggie & meat pies that miners in my grandpa’s home town used to bring for lunch) for Christmas Eve dinner. We’ve done it ever since I can remember and though they aren’t fancy, they are special to me because of the tradition.
Egg Nog or Fruitcake? Egg nog for sure. Not a huge fan of fruitcake.
Merritt, we are considering the same thing. I just don’t want to lie to them. I feel like a scrooge but I want them to know that when we talk about things we aren’t lying.
What is your favorite Christmas movie? It’s a Wonderful Life all the way.
Christmas music…love it or loathe it? Eh. Don’t ask. Some songs I really love. But the average Christmas song written in the past 50 years? Not so much.
I’m not saying that he’s not real (just in case anyone under the age of 11 reads this), but when did you stop believing in Santa?
Favorite Christmas tradition? I vaguely remember believing when I was a kid. One time. Santa was never pushed in my fam.
Would you rather eat a pound of fruit cake or a gallon of eggnog? I drink a gallon of eggnog everyday anyway.
First of all marry christmas to all of you .I want to told that my christmas watching movie is Don-2,and song is Colaveri and also favorite dress is red hat and red t-shirt.
1. I’m with you Rob. Home Alone all the way! Whenever I hear its featured Christmas songs on the radio, I always think to myself “this is from Home Alone” over any other thought.
2. Love it. But only in the month of December. Not a huge fan of it on Thanksgiving or the day after Thanksgiving or any other day in November.
3. Also can’t remember ever believing in him. Which is a shame, because I dig a good story so I’m disappointed I never believed.
4. Walking down the street from my grandparents’ and witnessing the live nativity at a local Methodist church close to where I grew up. REAL LLAMAS AND CAMELS.
5. Eggnog. This is no-contest. I wish they made this stuff year-round. It’s the nectar to my soul. I can’t get enough. Best invention ever — even better than the futon.
Bill, have you seen all of Santa Clause movies? I still haven’t seen the third one.
Saw the 3rd one. i wasn’t excited about it at all. The first two are classics. Rent it/borrow it before you buy it.
1.I am not dillema..hhmmm twilight.
2.i love it
3.i am still believe in Santa Clause.
4.Same to go out for movie.
5.i am trying to have both..
d and g, Twilight?
Jon, what exactly is a Swedish Christmas dinner? I’ve never heard of that.
1. Christmas Vacation
2. Love it
3. Around 4th grade
4. Watching Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas movie watching season.
5. This is disgusting….but the eggnog.
Larry, I’m with you. I think they both are pretty gag nasty.
Christmas Story
Love it
Never
Popcorn Balls
Eggnog
Ryan, do you make popcorn balls? I haven’t had one of those in years.
1. Home Alone and Elf
2. Love your mixes & listening in December….WEC band makes it even better.
3. Probably really young. Don’t remember really believing.
4. Opening one gift on Christmas Eve
5. Egg Nog everytime. Slow & steady.
Mon, that’s your favorite tradition? I didn’t know that. I love it too. I’m excited just thinking about gifts.
1. Home Alone
2. Love it
3. 7? My folks never mentioned Santa, either to encourage or discourage.
4. Sitting down and enjoying the finished Christmas tree with a glass of
5. Eggnog.
Ricky, we are brothers. Home Alone is the best. And I like what you did with 4 going into 5. Well played.
1. Elf it makes me laugh a lot
2. Love the classic songs. Not a fan of new stuff unless it’s by matchbox 20:)
3. I was the kid who told other kids that, “my parents told me there was no Santa.” isn’t that terrible!
4. As children, my sisters and I would sing carols from a book. Maybe I can resurrect that dead tradition.
5. Egg nog. One half glass at a time.

5. Both are pretty nasty, but I’d have to go with the eggnog.
P.S. Monica – if this post is not grammatically correct its ok. Grammar rules do not apply until after 9:00 a.m.
Doug, your second answer (I almost wrote your number two but that sounded gross) made me laugh. I also like the PS.
Rob, here are the answers to your questions:
1). True
2). 4
3). y=mx+b
4). A squirrel
5). pi
I hope these answers bring you more insight.

1) Elf, and now a Hallmark movie I watched last night called the Ultimate Gift.
2) I enjoy Christmas music.
3) DEC 21st 2011, right after reading your post today.
4) Growing up we never really had any. I on the other hand because I am ubber awesome, always read the story of Christmas on Christmas day.
5) I would have to say fruit cake. I can imagine a gallon of eggnogg could do some damage.
Joseph, my bad…my bad. It’s for the best though. At some point you had to hear and I’m glad that you could hear it here first.
1. Christmas Story
2. Oh Holy night! Lyrics are sooo amazing!
3. never believed in santa…i think…

Danielle, that is saying a lot. Good luck with that eggnog.
1. It’s a tie between Scrooged and Polar Express ( both traditions )

Brian, I have never seen Scrooged. I need to put that on my list.
1) A Christmas Story, Scrooged
2) Love it
3) Age of 12
4) Spending time with family, seeing relatives i only see once a year
5) Fruit cake the lesser of two evils
Jim, I bought some fruitcake today as a joke. I don’t know man..it’s pretty evil.
1 – White Christmas with good old Bing – Love musicals and Christmas ones are even better!

Alicia, I like how you think. And as a parent I think you do get to eat Santa’s cookies this year. Or is that Rick’s job.

Terry, I’m excited for you to experience Christmas Eve with Waters Edge. I wish it was tomorrow.
1. Sadly don’t watch any Christmas movies… But I do enjoy the Christmas sit-com episodes.

Scott, we need to change your none Christmas movie watching. Do you not watch many movies period, or just Christmas?
Not a big movie fan in general. I like the “idea” of movies, just to A.D.D. to sit through them. Even when I’m practicing guitar I have the music going and a football or basketball game on. You have to give movies undivided attention to really get the point or the story. I still have to many ants in my pants at this age!

5) Eggnog with a splash of rum and a sprinkling of nutmeg on top.
Randal, I used to make gingerbread houses with my dad. I need to look into doing this with my kids. It was always fun.
Joe, You had me with Hulk Hogan. I was a huge fan as a kid. Never did like that they let the Warrior beat him and then never let them rematch.
1) “Muppet Christmas Carol.” It’s musical and funny–can’t go wrong with that. As a kid, I also remember watching “A Very Brady Christmas” on TV every year–where the Brady Bunch all come home for Christmas with their families. I’d want to watch that, too.

TJ, I’m with you and the eating. That’s a great tradition…year round.
T.C., I love that you are from England and use the word rubbish. It’s such a classy negative word. I wish I was cool enough to say it.
Michael, I don’t know what a smothered burrito is but I want one right this second. Sounds amazing.
smothered burritos are like your normal burrito…but then you put amazing sauce/chili on it.
Sean, I’m definitely curious about your Santa views.
I’ve tried.
It might be another guy/girl thing, cause Kara hates it too.
Stephen, good luck with that movie. It doesn’t look horrible.
Moe, no judging here.
Gayle, that’s awesome! What a cool story. Good for you for taking that step. I hope they come to Christmas Eve.
Loved this blog post that discussed, among other things, how to tell your children the truth about Santa without being a scrooge. Really made me think. http://jenhatmaker.com/blog/2011/11/29/the-christmas-conundrum
Clay, can you film this eggnog drinking and post it on your blog?
