Now
I wouldn’t call myself a zombie fan per say. I have seen a few zombie documentaries and I watch them for research purposes. You never know when a zombie attack will happen in your neighborhood. Thanks to the documentary The Walking Dead I know how to survive a zombie attack. Apparently zombies can smell the life in you, so the key is to kill one and smother yourself in their innards. I know that’s gross but you better believe that you’ll be thanking me when zombies attack you. For more information on how to survive zombies I recommend the documentary Zombieland. They give you 32 rules to live by. Rules like the double tap. I’d write that one down. It could save your life.
Now what inspired this post was the season premiere of The Walking Dead. It’s a really well done show with great character development…and zombies. Now I promised that there was a point to this post and here it is. Zombies are awesomely dedicated. They have one thing on the mind. They are focused. They are what Christ Followers are supposed to be. Do what? Hold the phone!
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20.
As a Christ Follower we are dead people walking. The old way of living is dead. Our old desires are dead. We are dead to sin and alive in Jesus! We are the walking dead…er minus the insane passion to eat people.
I leave you with the lyrics to an old song that I used to love when I was in high school, Some Kind of Zombie.
I must have been confused or vain
to let this evil in my brain.
Lord did I enjoy the change
that you made inside my heart?
Oh here they come
I’m not afraid
there’s no temptation I can’t evade.
Stand up straight
look through the haze
I begin to walk through the maze
here they come
they’re all up on me
but I’m dead to sin like
some kind of zombie.
I hear you speak and I obey
some kind of zombie
I walked away from the grave
some kind of zombie
I will never be afraid
some kind of zombie
I gave my life away.
I’m obliged and obey
I’m enslaved to what you say.
Are you a zombie fan?
Rob,
Thanks for the zombie info. I’ve been concerned about zombie attacks for some time now. Now ai need to start warchingcthese documentaries to discover other defensive tactics.
Whew. This post came just in time for you Larry. You never know when a zombie will get hungry and attack.
I think I’d survive well under a zombie attack… Actually, I feel like I would be the guy that the film crew would find for their apocalyptic documentary. They’d call it, “Sparks of Zombie’s.”. Nice ring to that…
Ryan, I like how you think. I’d be the guy that people would watch and say “that idiot deserves to be eaten.” I have no survival skills and I don’t own any respectable weapons.
I can already see it…a Christian version of zombie movies.
I saw the show last night for the first time. I loved it. The wifey liked it too but it was a bit too gorey for her at parts. I’m going to have to go back and watch the first season.
Do it. First season was awesome.
Tony, that shocked me about my wife. She really likes it as well. It’s not often that we find a show that we both like. She’s dancing shows, vampire shows, and stuff with McDreamy. I’m not.
Oh man, this was very very funny. The kind of pithy content that you can only get at robshep. Zombies, eating brain, God, life lessons. I mean, who could ask for anything more?
Thanks Daniel! I appreciate the encouragement. I was actually nervous about this post. I didn’t want to offend anyone one and I know that some people are sensitive about zombies.
I can’t stand zombies, vampires or werewolves.
That being said, Zombieland was amusing and Shawn of the Dead was epic.
Ricky, I think we might be in the same boat. I don’t like zombie movies but I did like both of those films. I also have really enjoyed The Walking Dead. You should give it a shot.
Audio A…nicely done sr! Great Analogy! lol…
Audio A was the very first Christian Album I ever bought! it had some kind of zombie…
Chevette was awesome too!…
Arny, Audio A was a great band! I loved them! I owned all of their CD’s until they became a mellow band. I didn’t like that they were Audio Adrenaline and that their later stuff wasn’t filled with adrenaline.
Great post Rob! Do you know that the book I’m writing is on this subject? By that I mean Christian zombies. I’ve got some similar thoughts in the last chapter! Love the metaphor.
Clay, I think I may have known that but I had forgotten it. When that thing comes out I’d love to read it, and then pimp it on my site. Let me know if you’d like to do a guest post when it comes out.
I’m not a big zombie fan, but I loved this series. I loved part I and really enjoyed the first episode last night.
Oh, and I got my zombie survivor materials. I also have alien surviving materials, and Boston Red Sox surviving materials. I’m a survivor man….
Moe, nice. Please make all your surviving materials a blog post. I’d like to read what those are.
so glad you are a fan of this show. And of course leave it up to you to find the amazing connection between Zombies and God. You are just such an awesome guy. Great post and great show! miss you man!
Thanks Brad! I miss you too! Let’s talk again soon.
Not a Zombie fan – but my daughter loves anything SCARY and gross. Not sure why – I’m going with she’s like her dad 🙂 Wait. He doesn’t like things scary or TOO gross. Action yes – gross, no. So I’m not sure WHERE she gets that from!
Cindy, has your daughter watched The Walking Dead? She’d probably like it.
I’ll have to ask her 🙂
I have had little experiences with Zombies in my life time, well I guess that’s a good thing. About the only influence I have had to Zombies is the epic Thriller video, I mean who wouldn’t want to be able to dance like that?!
Joseph, that is an epic video! I should have tied that into this post. Good thinking.
Zombies & Audio Adrenaline lyrics in the same blog post?!?! This is fantastic. Super-hero-like, even.
Thanks Lindsey! I do what I can.
I’m not normally a zombie fan–especially Rob Zombie. But I do enjoy the Walking Dead. Even though it seems to be getting grosser–or more gross. Whichever is correct.
Matt, I agree. I could do without some of the grossness.
I would love that show if only… it weren’t about Zombies. I love the plot, minus the Zombie part. Then again, it could have something to do with the fact that just reading this post will make me dream about Zombies. 🙁
So Susan, did you dream of zombies?
I respect the zombies, but they gross me out the door. I think the last one I saw was Dawn of the Dead about 10 years ago. I might check out Walking Dead since it’s on Netflix, but knowing the advances in makeup and special effects since then, I would rather blow them up in a video game than watch them on TV.
Russ, it is fun to blow them up in video games isn’t it? My brother and I played a zombie video game and it took us 1 1/2 years to beat it. We only played it when we were together and it took us forever.
I need to watch season one of TWD… filmed in my backyard. Well, not my actual yard, but nearby. Grr.
It looks up very frightened and results in the fear to someone. i m also want to take a look.thanks for sharing.
I like how you think.I would be the guy that the film crew would find for their apocalyptic documentary.
